South West Lakes Trust

South West Lakes Trust

Did you know, we are managed by South West Lakes Trust.
South West Lakes Trust was established as a charity in April 2000, to manage, provide and promote public access, recreation, and conservation on and around inland waters in the South West of England.

We look after 40 inland waters from West Cornwall to West Somerset, some of which provide unrivalled access to watersports, angling, walking and cycling. Other more sensitive sites are managed by our Countryside team to protect their environmental credentials and designations, such as Sites of Special Scientific Interest, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty or Local Nature Reserves.

At the heart of what we do.....

A clear purpose to “protect and enhance special places for people and wildlife” – by visiting one of our lakes and simply paying our small car parking fee you are making a valuable contribution to our environmental aims.

Alongside this is our mission of ‘more people having great experiences’. With more and more research indicating that green spaces have a key role to play in improving public health we believe we can make a regional difference to our nation’s wellbeing. Our lakes and environment can benefit local communities – improving physical and mental health through exercise and positive social interaction. We want people of all ages and abilities to use our lakes to improve their own health and wellbeing. We have something for everyone, including miles of footpaths and cycle trails, acres of beautiful woodland as well as amazing opportunities to get out on the water.

Our team of employees and community volunteers take immense pride in supporting the work of South West Lakes Trust, which is now the region’s largest combined conservation and recreation charity.
