Prior to every watersports trip, it is essential that you check the information on this page to ensure that you are up to date with relevant site information, rules and regulations.

In line with government guidance to continue to stay home but enjoy more time outdoors have commenced our phased re-opening of the lakes; however we urge visitors to stay alert, act cautiously and not rush to the lakes. We also encourage visitors to stay local and to avoid honeypot areas and unnecessary travel.

Safeguarding our visitors and team of employees is our priority and therefore we have certain measures in place to limit the spread of coronavirus and maintain the safety of everyone.

Whilst open, we must maintain social distancing and hygiene standards to a level that we feel minimises the risk of spreading coronavirus. If at any point we have concerns that visitor numbers or public behaviour are restricting our ability to do this, we reserve the right to close particular lakes or facilities without prior notice.

Following the instructions below will help us to keep our visitors and our team safe and enable our gates to stay open.

Please make sure you visit this web page via the link sent, prior to any trip you make, we will keep this page up-to-date with information on the status of our lakes.

If you have a new, persistent cough, temperature or any other reason to suspect you may have coronavirus, please do not visit and help save lives.

The following are our overarching instructions for all visitors, below this you will find further details on our code of conduct for going afloat.

  1. Please respect our team; they are doing their best to keep you safe during your visit
  2. Please follow all instructions given on posters and by members of the team
  3. Social distancing; please maintain appropriate social distance between yourself and others at all times, lakes will be open from sunrise to sunset to help you maintain this
  4. Please wash your hands in line with government guidance, as often as possible. Where no facilities exist please use personal hand sanitiser
  5. All dogs must be kept on leads at all times. Please do not allow dogs to jump up at people, please take your dog waste home
  6. Access to our sites is for outdoor recreation only, please don’t gather or picnic in groups larger than current government advice
  7. Our play areas are closed until further notice and cannot be used under any circumstances, please do not be tempted to let your children play on them
  8. Toilet facilities will only be open when we can ensure they can be maintained in line with government guidance. Please note they are all closed at this time with the exception of Roadford and Stithians activity centres for members only.
  9. Pay and Display parking machines will be cleaned as often as possible; we advice that you use personal hand sanitiser after use or consider joining us as a Friend of SW Lakes
  10. We have tied open gates around the lake to remove touch points wherever possible, please leave them as you find them
  11. We do not actively clean site furniture such as benches, please use these only if absolutely necessary
  12. If you require first aid treatment whilst on site, please inform a member of the team who will direct to a local hospital or contact the emergency services if required

Launch Member Code of Conduct

This is to be read in conjunction with existing SWLT code of practice within membership handbook.

  • Members must only launch if they are completely comfortable in their ability in the prevailing conditions.
  • Please give your craft a thorough and extensive check before going afloat, the majority of craft will not have been touched for at least 2 months.
  • Only one boat may use the slipway at a time.
  • Members can only sail double handed craft with members of their own household.
  • Members will be expected to arrive at the Lake ready to sail or change at their car, same after their activity.
  • All SW Lakes buildings will remain closed to members with the exception of a toilet.
  • Memberships will not be taken on the day, memberships must be complete and valid before arriving on site.
  • We will re-evaluate future opening times next week.
  • Safety boats will only respond in an emergency, a rescue scenario makes social distancing very difficult.

Day Launch visitors please also note the following in addition to the above:

  • You must book online in advance via the book now button on our website or by clicking the following links Roadford  or Stithians –  please note payment is not possible on site.
  • Ensure that you only launch well within your competency – safety cover will be limited and for emergencies only.
  • Have appropriate third party insurance for your craft

Thank you for your support and cooperation at this time.

We look forward to welcoming you soon
