Explore Stithians

Stithians Lake offers a great day out, on and off the water. Create your own pirate adventure, take to the water on a sailing quest or let your children run freely in our pirate-themed play area. Fill your day with fun and adventure, walk our nature path or bring your bike and cycle off-road. It’s a 4.8 mile circular route that runs adjacent to the lake, spot birds from our hide and discover Stithians Dam, everyone loves watching water cascade down this megastructure! Don’t forget to bring the dog, enjoy a day out with your four-legged friend and become our top dog!

There’s plenty of open spaces to let your children play freely. The Northern cut off and Southern arm of the lake is a designated nature reserve providing a great home to an amazing range of wildlife, download our free activity sheets and see what you will discover. Let your children’s imagination run free, find bugs, spot birds or take to the water and enjoy a canoeing adventure.

Great Food

Enjoy tasty treats from our onsite café. Café Lake Central serves freshly made cakes, light lunches, delicious pizzas and fantastic hot drinks.

We always advise people to call us before making the journey on 01209 860301 to check for conditions and limitations. Booking can be made on “closed days” if required.


Cafe Lake Central is run by Mandy and her team. The cafe is open daily and serves freshly cooked pizzas, paninnis, light lunches, coffee, cakes and ice cream. Enjoy a slice of Italy whilst you enjoy the lakeside view.

We offer hire, courses and launch for sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, SUP (stand up paddle boarding) and more. You can take part in single sport activity, join a club or sign up for a course.

Stithians Lake was built in 1965, it Cornish translation is Lidn Seynt Stedyan. The Northern cut off and southern arm of Stithians Lake is a designated nature reserve. The lake is a popular bird watching site in the South West, an impressive list of common birds include, Buzzards, Kestrels, Coots, Ravens and Little and Great Crested Grebes and Mallards.

Did you know, Stithians Lake is managed by the charity, South West Lakes Trust.
